Ernest Khoo
Optometrist

Ernest Khoo is a pediatric optometrist with a broad background in clinical practice across New Zealand and Australia. He completed his Bachelor of Optometry at the University of Auckland (therapeutically endorsed) and began his career in beautiful Christchurch, where he developed extensive experience managing a wide range of eye conditions, particularly keratoconus.

His interest in complex contact lens fittings and specialty vision care became a key focus during this time as he volunteered on several non-profit eye care missions, providing essential vision services to communities in need both locally and abroad. Sadly, the devastating earthquake in Christchurch marked a moment of reflection that encouraged him to move forward and explore new horizons. Having visited Australia numerous times, he decided to cross the ditch and has since worked in Melbourne and now Sydney.

His passion for continual learning led him to complete postgraduate studies (high distinctions) at the University of New South Wales (UNSW), where he deepened his knowledge in binocular vision, children’s eye care, and evidence-based practice. After finishing his Master’s degree, he spent several years supporting regional communities across Australia through relief work and also served as a visiting clinical supervisor at the UNSW Pediatric and Binocular Vision Clinic, mentoring final-year students and contributing to the education of future practitioners.

He finds great fulfilment in sharing his knowledge and encouraging the next generation of optometrists to provide thoughtful, holistic care. Known for his gentle and patient approach, Ernest takes the time to make every visit comfortable and reassuring — whether it’s a child’s first eye test or a complex vision assessment.

He believes that good vision goes beyond clear sight; it’s about helping each person reach their full potential in school, work, and life.

In his spare time, Ernest enjoys staying active — whether he’s playing tennis, going for a swim, or running with his dog.
